Happy Independence Day Kosovo

History, Political Science, Civics and Culture and Social Studies are my all time favorite subjects. These are the only subjects that I feel I am the best when Im in school. Kaya kong pumatay ng tao makakuha lang ng malaking grade sa mga subjects na to. With this, magbablog ako about Kosovo.

Yuguslavia was a communist country supported by Russia. With the fall of the former Soviet Union other communist countries followed like Czechoslovakia( now Czeck Republic and Slovak Republc ) and Yuguslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, and Slovenia ). Last year, Serbia and Montenegro officially became two separate independent states namely Serbia and Montenegro. This year Kosovo separated from Serbia. Yesterday was the declaration of Kosovo's independence from Serbia.

Kosovo (Albanian: Kosova or Kosovë, Serbian: Косово, Kosovo) is a self-proclaimed republic in southeastern Europe, disputed by Serbia. It borders Serbia proper to the north, Montenegro to the east, and Albania and the Republic of Macedonia to the south. It has a population of just over two million people, predominantly ethnic Albanians, with smaller populations of Serbs, Turks, Romani people, Goranis, Bosniaks, and other ethnic communities. Priština is the capital and largest city.

Following the Kosovo War in 1999, United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 placed Kosovo under the authority of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), with security provided by the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR), and legally reaffirmed Serbia's sovereignty over the region. After UN-sponsored negotiations failed to reach a consensus on an acceptable constitutional status, Kosovo's provisional government unilaterally declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008[2], terming itself as the Republic of Kosovo (Albanian: Republika e Kosovës, Serbian: Република Косово, Republika Kosovo), receiving partial international recognition as a state.

The Serbian government regards Kosovo as a Serbian province under the name of Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija (Serbian: Аутономна покрајина Косово и Метохија, Autonomna pokrajina Kosovo i Metohija, also Космет, Kosmet; Albanian: Krahina Autonome e Kosovës dhe Metohisë), and is supported in this view by some other states (including Russia and the People's Republic of China. Serbian governance in the region, however, is virtually nonexistent.


The flag of the Republic of Kosovo was officially adopted following the unilateral declaration of independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008. The flag is partly the result of an international design competition, organized by the United Nations-backed provisional government, which attracted almost a thousand entries. The competition rules insisted that the final design must not use ethnic or national symbols or colour schemes in order to ensure that it represented all citizens. The now-used design is a variant of one proposal. It shows six white stars in an arc above a golden map of Kosovo on a blue field.[2] [3] They are meant to symbolize Kosovo's six ethnic groups: Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Roma, and Bosniaks.
