The pageant took place yesterday at the Waterfront Hotel's Pacific Ballroom. The uniqueness of this pageant is the very fact that it focuses on wit and intelligence. The pageant omitted the swimsuit competition for the organizers wanted to focus on getting a Cebuana that is not only beautiful but could speak what is on her mind openly to the public. Thus, every candidate is groomed for one month at the Toastmasters Club to hone their communication skills. They wanted to produce an ambassador who can wow the crowd not just by her beauty but also through her words. The last time I watched a Miss Cebu pageant was three years ago, I remembered one interview when Cherry Gil, known to be so articulate was so stunned that instead of her doing the interview, she was interviewed by the contestants.
